The Shepherdess Rose | David Austin Apricot-Pink Cut Rose - Fragrant Flowering Shrub

Enhance your garden with the The Shepherdess Rose, a beloved David Austin variety renowned for its soft apricot-pink blooms and delightful fruity fragrance. Since its release in 2007, this versatile rose has captivated gardeners and floral artists alike with its charming color transitions and resilient nature.

🌿 Variety Overview

  • Product Type: 2-year-old live plant with strong roots (well-established for optimal growth)
  • Origin: David Austin (UK, 2007 Release)
  • Rose Type: Cut Roses / Shrub Roses (dual-purpose for gardens and floral arrangements)
  • Height: 80–90cm (ideal for borders, containers, or small garden spaces)

🌹 Flower Characteristics & Aesthetics

The Shepherdess Rose boasts a romantic transformation from bud to bloom. Starting as a globular bud, it unfolds into a stunning rosette or cup shape with ruffled edges, creating a timeless, old-fashioned appeal.

  • Bloom Color: Soft apricot to gentle pink, with outer petals occasionally fading to white for a gradient effect.
  • Flower Size: 7–8cm in diameter (perfect for creating full, lush bouquets).
  • Petal Count: 41+ double petals (adds volume and texture to garden displays).
  • Fragrance: Delightful fruity scent with a hint of lemon (invigorating and aromatic).
  • Vase Life: Short bloom duration once fully opened; petals may loosen in summer heat (best enjoyed fresh from the garden).

✨ Why Gardeners Love The Shepherdess Rose

Beyond its visual and olfactory charm, this David Austin rose is prized for its strong disease resistance (resistant to black spot and powdery mildew) and excellent heat tolerance (thrives even in temperatures above 30°C). It offers generous multi-season blooming, rebounding quickly after each flush to keep your garden vibrant year-round.

Perfect For: Garden enthusiasts, rose collectors, and floral designers seeking a unique apricot-pink rose with a sweet citrus fragrance.

🌿 Care & Planting Tips

  • Light: Full sun to partial shade (6+ hours of sunlight daily for optimal flowering).
  • Soil: Well-draining soil enriched with organic matter (promotes strong root development).
  • Watering: Regular watering, keeping soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
  • Pruning: Prune in late winter to shape the plant and encourage new growth for abundant blooms.
